Why I enjoy listening to audio-books in my sleep.

I personally enjoy listening to audio-books or podcasts whilst I sleep. Normally I listen to audio-books before I sleep and fall asleep whilst listening to them. Sometimes as I am dreaming and listen to them at the same time, the audio-book paints itself into my dreams. It is actually very bizarre but also very cool. Visibly seeing my dreams being affected by what is being played in my audio-book has happened more than a few times to say that it is coincidental.

Lately I have been listening toStalingrad by Anthony Beevor, a gripping and vivid story about the battle of Stalingrad during WWII. As I was dreaming, I was transported to the battlefields there; it was quite weird but quite exciting at the same time.
I find that if I am listening to something about space or science fiction, my dreams tend to wander in that direction. Alternatively if I am listening to something dark like a thriller, it might manifest itself into an unpleasant dream or a nightmare. But as scary as they are, I normally wake up and then carry on sleeping again. It should be noted that if you do want to avoid the chance of having scary dreams, you might want to skip on Steven King books.
I don’t really know what the health implications are of this how it affects my sleep patterns. But I find that I cannot really sleep unless I listen to something and it has been this way since I was 19. Of course there are exceptions like when I am really tired or when I don’t have my IPod, but more often than not I find comfort in listening to stuff as I sleep. I typically use earphones at night although sometimes when I am twisting and turning they do come off but by then I am asleep and don’t care already. However I do plan to invest in one of those pillow speakers, where you can put them inside your pillow case and only hear your IPod when you press your head onto it. I can see that there is a quite a good market in these devices which may mean that I’m not the only one who enjoys listening to things whilst I sleep.
I tend not to listen to music though when I sleep, because I like to listen to stories more. I find that if I have heard a story being played out in my dreams, when I wake up I can vividly remember what I have listened to. I guess this is something that people who listen to tutorials teaching language whilst sleeping can attest to.
Overall, I am someone who enjoys sleeping and listening to stories and learning at the same time. I find that I can absorb listening to books and stories better in my sleep and long may it continue.
